Improving your hair health
Are you one of the many people, who have started to loose your hair prematuely, or it is simply just becoming a lot thiner the reason years? If the answer is yes, you will need to look more closely at your diet and how you treat your hair in general.
It is a common phenomenem, as we age, that we start to loose our hair, but it does not have to be that way. Your hair is made of protein, and ensuring you get enough protein is crucial for healthy and strong hair. Lack of protein will make your hair dry and brittle, so aim to add additional lean protein in your diet to make your hair shinning and strong.
Avoiding certain medicines, reducing stress, getting adequate protein and iron in your diet, and using hairstyles that do not damage your hair may reduce or prevent hair loss. Inherited hair loss cannot be prevented
Iron and zinc help hair follicles to grow.
Iron is truly the one element to improve your current hair condition, and lack of iron will cause hair loss. The hair follicle and root are fed by a nutrient rich blood supply, and disrupting the nutrient supply to the follicle will simply affect the hair growth cycle and may result in shedding. Vegetarians can raise their iron intake by including lentils, spinach and other leafy green vegetables such as broccoli, kale and salad greens.
Scalp protection involves other important minerals, such as zinc and selenium. A lack of zinc can lead to hair loss and a dry, flaky scalp. Fortified cereals and wholegrains are a good source of zinc along with oysters, beef and eggs.
Be aware that the sun can damage our hair just like it can damage our skin so ensure you eat food rich in vitamin E. Nuts are an nutritional super boosters and providing both zinc and selenium as well as vitamin E
Treat it with nourishment
Both during summer and winter, it is crucial to provide your hair with the same care as you give your skin, hence a hair care routine is important. You can make your own simple hair mask every week, either by using regular olive oil and let it sit for 20 minutes before you wash it out, or you can make a deep, nourishing treatment every two weeks, by whisking egg yolk, a half mashed avocado and a spoonful of honey. Apply the treatment into your clean damp hair, leave for 30 minutes, and then rinse your hair thoroughly in lukewarm water.
