Weight management session 3, water the forgotten nutrient, essential for general health and weight loss

Water is one of the most important aspect for general health and for weight loss as it is the one thing that the body so desperately depends upon. Our body is composed of approximately 60% water and is used for digestion, absorption, detoxification, circulation, transportation of nutrients and regulating body temperature, all essential functions for optimum health.

Many people unknowingly suffer from chronic dehydration, which can lead to a variety of diseases including diabetes, low back pain, osteoporosis, kidney stones and kidney problems. Also skin problems and digestion is a very common cause of dehydration and it is very typical that people with chronic dehydration suffer with a weaker immune systems, which can lead to many other serious illnesses.

The definition of dehydration means your body does not have as much water and fluids as it should have or need, and is caused by losing too much fluid and not drinking enough water or fluids, or both. Dehydration is classified as mild, moderate or severe and when severe, dehydration is a life-threatening emergency.

As a general rule we should all drink as per the 8 by 8 rule, 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water daily, which is similar to 2 litres of water. You might think it is a lot, but taken into consideration that fluid is lost every time we breathe, exercise, sweat or go to the bathroom the remaining water is used for our body to function properly.

Throughout the weight loss program it is essential to drink at least the recommended 8 glasses of water, preferable bottle water and it is important to note that this is just an average as some people need more.

The body in general needs more water when on a high protein diet, a high fiber diet, or when we are being more physically active, being ill with elevated temperatures, or are exposed to warm or hot condition. Drinking water when we are thirsty is the body’s natural response in telling us that now it is time for a refilling, however sipping on water throughout the day is more beneficial as it depress hunger and eliminate cravings and the good think with water is that it has zero calories.

Due to the unconsciously amount of chemicals we consume daily, it is almost impossible to live toxin free Optimum health by eating well, and as toxins are stored in the fat cell,  the more toxic we are the more difficult is it to lose body fat, as the toxin binds or holds the fat cells, hence drinking water support in waste removal and detox our body of toxins and thereby supporting in greater fat loss and well-being.

  1. Follow the 8 by 8 rule as a minimum and sip on water (with lemon) throughout the day.
  2. Drink water 30 minutes before meal times.
  3. Some people states that drinking cold water enhance additional calorie burns due to the extra energy it takes to warm up the water to the core temperature, but for some people drinking cold water can cause irritable stomach symptoms.
